Laurence Watts

Laurence Watts is a Melbourne-based researcher and practitioner, working at the intersection of documentary, computational social sciences, media, and disinformation studies. With a background in philosophy, fine art and documentary practice, he brings a unique perspective to examining how climate denialism and disinformation spread.

As part of his doctoral research at RMIT University, Laurence founded LookGlass, an in-development AI-powered platform that classifies and visualises disinformation narratives by their rhetorical strategies, offering new ways for researchers, journalists, and the public to track and interpret emerging information risks. His expertise spans climate communication, belief formation, media ecologies, and narrative analysis, integrates artistic insight with applied research to generate innovative responses to the wider crisis of disinformation
